Patients’ satisfaction is often linked to their expectations. The more patients feel like they understand their choices and their physicians’ treatment plans, the more likely they are to be content with their medical care and surgical outcome. This is particularly true with premium IOLs for cataract surgery. Patients need to grasp not only what a cataract is, but also the particulars of their individual visual system and how current technologies may or may not work for them.

In today’s economic climate, using technology to the benefit of your practice is not only a good idea, but it can be the difference between sinking or swimming. We work at Washington Eye Physicians and Surgeons, a multidisciplinary ophthalmology practice with eight ophthalmologists and two optometrists located in Chevy Chase, Maryland. The local competition is fierce, especially for elective procedures such as LASIK, PRK, premium IOLs, and Visian ICL. Making a clinic stand out in the crowd requires more than hard work; it also takes technology.
When patients come in for a cataract consultation, I want to make sure they understand the basics of the procedure and enough about their intraocular lens (IOL) options to make an informed decision—one that they will be happy with for years to come. For most patients, this requires getting down to the very basics: What is a cata-ract? Where is it in the eye? How is the cataract removed? Click here to read more.
